If you still wish to purchase tickets these go on sale to the public on Monday at Ticketmaster (office inside the convention centre).

Rehearsal Time:
11am-12pm at the Convention Centre (recently renamed the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre). We will bus the students to and from rehearsal and will return in time for lunch and afternoon lessons.

Evening Arrangements:
Meet to get ready for the Ahurei at 6pm at the Convention Centre (we have hired a room to get ready in).
Students need to eat dinner before they come.
Please ensure students arrive in school uniform presentable and are punctual.
Students may wear a taonga if they wish.

Girls:
Ensure hair is well brushed and out (ready for hairdressers)
Bring a hairbrush
A named bag for belongings (a plastic shopping bag is fine)
No nail polish please.

Boys:
Black undies or shorts
Named bag for belongings (a plastic shopping bag is fine)
Clean faces (ready for stenciling)

Parent Helpers: We have some parent helpers already organised. Please contact me via the school office 3481701 or on 027 56 25 441 if you are able to help on the night with dressing and supervision of the children between 6 and 7pm.

Pick up:
Please ensure children are picked up from the room we dressed in no later than 8.45pm. Please note that photography during the concert is not permissible. Thank you to Jo Mitchell from Aislin Hairdressing for hair accessories for the evening. We look forward to a wonderful night.

Ahurei Update

All children who will be performing in the Ahurei Festival have received their notice to advise they will be performing and about the cost of tickets. Tickets are $6 each and must be ordered by Monday at the latest (Note: an extension on Friday's due date). Notices will be coming out this week to advise of the arrangements on the day and evening of Tuesday the 25th of November. All girls have been fitted for their costumes (Thanks Heidi Symon for this).

Up and Coming Kapa Haka Events

We have a number of events in which various children will be involved in over the next few weeks.

Next Week, Week 4 - The Senior Kapa Haka children (and a few middle school children) will perform at the Rotorua District Council Citizenship Ceremony. This will be at 1.30pm - leaving school via bus at 1pm.

Ahurei 25th November

Koro Tini is currently preparing the children for the Rotorua Schools Festival Ahurei. Closer to the date we would love some parent helpers who can help on the night for costuming and makeup. Please be aware (due to stage restrictions) 55 children will be performing on the night. We currently have 95 children who participate weekly at Kapa Haka (isn't that great!)Our school does perform every year so children will have many opportunities to attend in the future if they are not selected this year.

Week 5

Update 20 May

There was no Kapa Haka on 15 May as Koro was at a tangi. Mrs Sylvia Dunkley is going to be taking over the  Manager role for the Kapa Haka group from this Thursday and will also be looking after the blog from now on. On 22 May the Juniors will attend Kapa Haka from 2 - 2.25pm and the Middle and Senior School from 2.25 - 2.50pm. Only those students who have returned their Kapa Haka registration form will attend. If students need a form they can get one from the office or by going to the following link:

I have been very impressed with the attitude and behaviour of the children at Kapa Haka. We have had between 110 and 140 students attending Kapa Haka for the introductory sessions this year. The numbers just keep getting bigger each year. Koro Tini does an amazing job sharing his talents with our students. and inspiring them to love Kapa Haka. We are very lucky to have working with our students as the Kapa Haka tutor.

I plan to continue to maintain an interest in the group and have really enjoyed my time with the Kapa Haka group. A huge thank you to our Whanau Hui group, to Heidi Symon for all the hours she gives to ensuring we have a Whanau Hui group, supporting our school to obtain funding to assist our learners needing extra help and generally promoting things "Maori" within our school. We have also been lucky to have one of our new parents,  Eliana Maxwell, assisting with Kapa Haka this year. Thanks everyone and I know you are in good hands with Sylvia Dunkley now taking on the Kapa Haka Manager role.

Today was the first day of Kapa Haka for 2014 and we had 149 students attend in total! Forty-nine Junior students came from 2.00- 2.25pm and the Middle and Senior School students came from 2.25 - 2.50pm. Koro Tini is back again as the Kapa Haka tutor ( the numbers attending keep growing each year) and today Whaea Eliana, one of our parents, came and helped out too.

The students were fantastic. We hope that most of them can see themselves in either one of the following photos or videos. We upload the videos so they can practise the waiata at home.
